AWARDS FOR THE ROMANTIC HOTEL MUOTTAS MURAGL

Swiss Solar Prize for the Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl
In 2011, Engadin St. Moritz Mountains was awarded the Swiss Solar Prize in the category Building Renovations by the Solar Agency Switzerland in Geneva. The prize, which has been awarded annually since 2000, honors personalities, institutions, new buildings and building renovations as well as energy plants with particularly high sustainable standards. The mountain experience provider also received the world's only award for PlusEnergyBuildings, the PlusEnergyBuilding Solar Prize 2011.
The Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl, which is over one hundred years old, shows that high-level hotel comfort can also be realised at 2456 meters above sea level in the PlusEnergyBuilding sector. The Solar Agency particularly emphasized that thanks to the expansion and renovation, the total energy requirement was reduced by 64%, from 436000 kWh/a to 157400 kWh/a. The hotel's energy efficiency was also improved by the fact that the energy consumption of the building was reduced by 50%. Equally positive was the fact that the previous annual demand of approx. 40,000 liters of heating oil and the household and operating electricity of 36600 kWh/a are now 100% covered by solar energy, and that CO2 emissions have been reduced by 144 tons per year and thus also by 100%.
